During winter, the Harz region also has many wintersport facilities to offer for those who like to expercience winteractivities to the fullest.

Together Braunlage, St Andreasberg and Hohegeiß are the "wintersport-centre" of this region. In Braunlage you will find the Wurmberg that has the largest and most modern ski-facilities of Northern-Germany. But also on the Matthias-Schmidt-Berg (St Andreasberg) and at Sonnenberg every wintersport-fan of each level can enjoy the region's snow- and winteroffer...

In Braunlage, St Andreasberg and Hohegeiß you will find challengeing slopes, well built trails, many miles of walking tracks and several (bob)sleigh tracks: wintersport and winterfun as far as the sky reaches! Because of the favourable location of over 600 meters there is a good change of snow from December till March. Starter or well-trained and fanatic sportsman: the wintersport-facilities in the Harz region sure will have something interesting for everyone...

In the village of Hohegeiß there is a ski- and sleigh-crodelcenter. This is located at Am Brande 16 (on the other side of the Hotel "Harmonie" Rust) and accommodates 2 skilifts and 1 sleigh-lift. On the other side of our hotel there is also a sleigh-lift (Hasental). The downhills are suited for wintersport lovers of each level and offer lots of ski- and sleighfun! If the snow-conditions are good and if the weather allows it, there is also the possibility to have some more snow-fun at night when the slopes are illuminated.

Christmas markets

When the days are getting shorter and when the first snow-flakes are falling down, in the Harz region the Christmas-Markets will open their doors en small towns, villages and squares are turned into sparkling Winter-Wonder-Worlds.

A Christmas-Forest in the middle of a city, a traditional/historical Christmas-Market on the courtyard of a castle or Germany's largest Adventcalendre: a large numer of markets and its wide diversity make the period in advance of Christmas a lot more pleasant. When thousands of lights brighten up the colourful timber-style facades of builings and create a heavenly atmosphere, when the smell of glühwein, pinewood and roasted almonds fill the small alleys and when you hear the sound of Christmas-songs, the coziest and warmest period of the year has started... Some places to discover definitely are Goslar, Wernigerode or Quedlinburg.
